About the Event
AABE Virginia is hosting a virtual BEAM event with 2nd grade students at Montgomery Elementary School (Atlanta, Georgia). This event is apart of a collaboration with DeKalb County School District in promoting STEM education to students by exposing them to industry topics, such as RENAWABLES.
Lloyd Eley, Manager - Site Construction at Dominion Energy, will be leading the fun discussion with a presentation on Offshore Wind. Following, Deon Wright, Chair - Student Relations Committee, and Malesia Tayler, VP - External Relations will be facilitating an interactive class activity where students will be tasked to create pinewheels to replicate how turbines operates. Afterwards, students will be compete between classrooms on "who built the best pinwheel".
This initiative is apart of the students semester STEM project, where students will be building a model car powered by wind energy. Please join on discussions. Materials are listed below.
Materials needed:
- Construction paper or cardstock
- Pipe cleaner
- Flexi straw
- Pencil
- Hole puncher
- Glue stick
- scissors
Materials needed:
- Craft foam or cardstock (you only need a 5-inch x 5-inch square) and small bearings
- Pipe cleaner (1/2 of one)
- Stapler or glue dots
- Hole puncher
- Scissors
- Paper straw
- Pony beads (if pipe cleaner isn’t strong enough to hold the pinwheel)
